Verify the current label, exact formulation, patient and species-specific clinical reference before use. Independent veterinary/pharmacy review remains pending.

Prescribing overview

Sileo is an oromucosal gel for canine noise aversion, not an interchangeable injectable sedative.

Key prescribing checks

  • The label excludes dogs with severe cardiovascular, respiratory, liver or kidney disease, shock and specified states of severe debilitation or environmental stress.
  • Review sedation risk and concurrent central nervous system depressants. An already sedated patient requires reassessment rather than routine repeat administration.
  • Train the handler in the supplied syringe’s locking mechanism and handling instructions. Accidental human exposure can be medically significant.
  • Noise-related distress still warrants a broader behavioral assessment; the product does not identify the underlying cause of every fearful episode.

Uses by species

Approval and evidence apply to the named product, species, route and indication. An extra-label use requires its own prescribing assessment; a human indication is not an animal approval.

Pharmacology & pharmacokinetics

Mechanism and clinical role

Reduces noradrenaline release through alpha-2 receptor agonism.

Absorption, distribution, metabolism and elimination

Canine oromucosal absorption avoids first-pass metabolism; swallowing can undermine effectiveness.

Contraindications & cautions

Contraindications identify circumstances where the source says a product should not be used. Precautions call for assessment or monitoring. Interactions identify combinations to review. They are distinct categories; this summary does not replace a full interaction check or the current product label.

Sileo

U.S. canine oromucosal gel.

Contraindications · when not to use

  • Severe cardiovascular, respiratory, liver or kidney disease; shock, severe debilitation or stress from extreme heat/cold/fatigue; hypersensitivity to dexmedetomidine or excipients.

Precautions & monitoring

  • Label additionally says not to administer with pre-existing hypotension, hypoxia or bradycardia, or while sedated from earlier administration. Safety in breeding/pregnant/lactating dogs, dogs under 16 weeks or with relevant dental/gingival disease is unestablished. Prevent human exposure; pregnant handlers should avoid administration.

Safety sources checked: . Selected label information; independent veterinary or veterinary-pharmacy review remains pending. A label for dogs, cats, horses or humans does not establish safety for another species.

Adverse effects

Sedation, vomiting and reduced heart rate can occur.

These are selected source-reported effects, not incidence estimates or an exhaustive list. Spontaneous postmarketing reports do not by themselves establish frequency or causality.

Dosing & administration

Verify the source before prescribing. The regimens below summarize selected veterinary product labels, not every accepted veterinary use. They are not automatic substitutions between brands or formulations. Renal/hepatic disease, concurrent therapy, age, indication and clinical response can require a different plan.
