Prescribing overview
Bonqat and human Lyrica require distinct prescribing instructions.
Key prescribing checks
- Renal elimination is clinically important; the prescriber should review kidney function before selecting the regimen.
- Sedation, dizziness and impaired coordination are recognized label safety issues. Review concurrent opioids and other sedating medicines and investigate excessive sedation or respiratory difficulty.
- The human label calls for gradual withdrawal. Do not abruptly stop a veterinarian-directed anticonvulsant plan or import the human taper schedule as an animal protocol.
Uses by species
Approval and evidence apply to the named product, species, route and indication. An extra-label use requires its own prescribing assessment; a human indication is not an animal approval.

Contraindications & cautions
Contraindications identify circumstances where the source says a product should not be used. Precautions call for assessment or monitoring. Interactions identify combinations to review. They are distinct categories; this summary does not replace a full interaction check or the current product label.
Lyrica
Human immediate-release pregabalin capsules; veterinary use is extra-label.
Contraindications · when not to use
- Pregabalin or ingredient hypersensitivity.
Precautions & monitoring
- Angioedema, sedation and respiratory depression can occur. Review renal function and avoid abrupt withdrawal.
Bonqat
Feline 50 mg/mL oral solution only; not Lyrica capsules.
Contraindications · when not to use
- Pregabalin or excipient hypersensitivity.
Precautions & monitoring
- Caution: cardiac disease, hypertension, renal disease or severe systemic disorders. Safety below 7 months and in breeding/pregnant/lactating cats is unestablished.
Safety sources checked: . Selected label information; independent veterinary or veterinary-pharmacy review remains pending. A label for dogs, cats, horses or humans does not establish safety for another species.
Adverse effects
Ataxia, lethargy, vomiting, hypothermia and tremor may occur.
These are selected source-reported effects, not incidence estimates or an exhaustive list. Spontaneous postmarketing reports do not by themselves establish frequency or causality.

Drug & supplement interactions
This is a selected interaction reference, not an automated or comprehensive combination checker. Reconcile prescription drugs, nonprescription products, supplements and recent treatment changes.
Lyrica
Human immediate-release pregabalin capsules; veterinary use is extra-label.
- Opioids and other CNS depressants increase sedation/respiratory risk; ACE inhibitors can increase angioedema concern.
Bonqat
Feline 50 mg/mL oral solution only; not Lyrica capsules.
- Safety with opioids or other sedatives is unestablished.
Monitoring
Assess comorbidities/sedatives; observe recovery.
Client counseling
Do not redose after spitting, vomiting, salivation or apparent nonresponse. Keep overly sedated cats warm; withhold food/water until effects resolve.
This section supports the veterinary team's discharge discussion; it does not replace the product’s Client Information Sheet where one is required.
Storage & handling
Bonqat: 2–8°C; use within 6 months opening; up to 1 month may be at ≤25°C.
Brands, formulations & ingredient identity
Active ingredients
Pregabalin
Lyrica contains pregabalin, not gabapentin. Related drug classes do not make these two active ingredients synonymous.
Confirm whether a prescription refers to capsules, solution or a modified-release product. An immediate-release product and a controlled-release product should not be substituted from a name match alone.
Human labeling does not transfer indications or administration instructions to an animal. Record the exact strength and dispensing instructions in medication reconciliation.
Shared ingredients do not establish interchangeable concentrations, routes, release properties, species labeling or regional availability.
