Prescribing overview
Senvelgo is not insulin. Fatal ketoacidosis can develop with normal glucose; screening is essential.
Key prescribing checks
- Do not use in cats previously treated with insulin, currently receiving insulin or with insulin-dependent diabetes. Withdrawing insulin to start this product can cause fatal ketoacidosis.
- Required screening includes assessment for ketosis, hydration, appetite and concurrent illness. A newly diagnosed diabetic cat is not automatically eligible.
- Diabetic ketoacidosis may occur despite normal or near-normal blood glucose. Illness during treatment requires prompt ketone assessment and clinical evaluation.
- Continued monitoring remains necessary after an initially successful response.
Uses by species
Approval and evidence apply to the named product, species, route and indication. An extra-label use requires its own prescribing assessment; a human indication is not an animal approval.

Contraindications & cautions
Contraindications identify circumstances where the source says a product should not be used. Precautions call for assessment or monitoring. Interactions identify combinations to review. They are distinct categories; this summary does not replace a full interaction check or the current product label.
Senvelgo
Oral solution; Cats
Contraindications · when not to use
- Previously insulin-treated cats, cats receiving insulin, or insulin-dependent diabetes.
Precautions & monitoring
- Do not initiate with anorexia, dehydration, lethargy, ketosis/DKA history, recent suspected pancreatitis, chronic/unresponsive diarrhea, cachexia, bilirubin above 0.5 mg/dL or creatinine above 2 mg/dL. Euglycemic ketoacidosis may be fatal; screening and ongoing monitoring are required.
Safety sources checked: . Selected label information; independent veterinary or veterinary-pharmacy review remains pending. A label for dogs, cats, horses or humans does not establish safety for another species.
Adverse effects
Diarrhea, vomiting, weight loss, dehydration and potentially fatal diabetic/euglycemic ketoacidosis.
These are selected source-reported effects, not incidence estimates or an exhaustive list. Spontaneous postmarketing reports do not by themselves establish frequency or causality.

Drug & supplement interactions
This is a selected interaction reference, not an automated or comprehensive combination checker. Reconcile prescription drugs, nonprescription products, supplements and recent treatment changes.
A product-specific interaction summary has not been established here. An empty list must not be interpreted as “no interactions.” Review the full source and a species-appropriate clinical reference.
Monitoring
Baseline examination/CBC/chemistry/fructosamine/urinalysis; ketones days 2–3 and approximately 7, and with illness; glycemic/weight reassessment weeks 1 and 4, then routinely.
Client counseling
Stop and seek immediate assessment for appetite loss, lethargy, dehydration or weight loss, regardless of glucose. Give directly or with small wet-food amount, not mixed into food.
This section supports the veterinary team's discharge discussion; it does not replace the product’s Client Information Sheet where one is required.
