Prescribing overview

Revolution Plus is feline topical combination therapy, not interchangeable with Revolution or canine Simparica.

Key prescribing checks

  • The U.S. product is for cats and kittens meeting the label age and weight requirements, not an interchangeable dog preparation.
  • Isoxazoline labeling includes potential neurological reactions, including tremors, incoordination and seizures. Review neurological history and counsel about new signs.
  • Safety has not been established in breeding, pregnant or lactating cats. Review the complete label for patient eligibility and species-specific parasite claims.

Uses by species

Approval and evidence apply to the named product, species, route and indication. An extra-label use requires its own prescribing assessment; a human indication is not an animal approval.

Pharmacology & pharmacokinetics

Mechanism and clinical role

Selamectin disrupts parasite chloride conductance; sarolaner blocks arthropod ligand-gated chloride channels.

Absorption, distribution, metabolism and elimination

After feline topical combination administration, reported half-lives are 12.5 days for selamectin and 41.5 days for sarolaner; both distribute systemically.

Contraindications & cautions

Contraindications identify circumstances where the source says a product should not be used. Precautions call for assessment or monitoring. Interactions identify combinations to review. They are distinct categories; this summary does not replace a full interaction check or the current product label.

Contraindications · when not to use

  • Label reports no known contraindications.

Precautions & monitoring

  • Use caution with neurologic history; seizures may occur without prior history. Safety below eight weeks or in breeding, pregnant or lactating cats has not been evaluated.

Safety sources checked: . Selected label information; independent veterinary or veterinary-pharmacy review remains pending. A label for dogs, cats, horses or humans does not establish safety for another species.

Adverse effects

Application-site reactions, vomiting, anorexia and lethargy; tremors, ataxia and seizures can occur.

These are selected source-reported effects, not incidence estimates or an exhaustive list. Spontaneous postmarketing reports do not by themselves establish frequency or causality.

Dosing & administration

Verify the source before prescribing. The regimens below summarize selected veterinary product labels, not every accepted veterinary use. They are not automatic substitutions between brands or formulations. Renal/hepatic disease, concurrent therapy, age, indication and clinical response can require a different plan.

Drug & supplement interactions

This is a selected interaction reference, not an automated or comprehensive combination checker. Reconcile prescription drugs, nonprescription products, supplements and recent treatment changes.

A product-specific interaction summary has not been established here. An empty list must not be interpreted as “no interactions.” Review the full source and a species-appropriate clinical reference.

Monitoring

Review heartworm prevention history, parasite response and new neurologic signs.

Client counseling

Apply directly to dry neck-base skin, not broken skin; do not massage or give orally.

This section supports the veterinary team's discharge discussion; it does not replace the product’s Client Information Sheet where one is required.

Storage & handling

Store at or below 30°C; avoid flame/heat until dry.

Selamectin · Sarolaner

Revolution Plus is not simply another name for Revolution: it adds sarolaner to selamectin.
